Nemo Arts

Founded in 1998, Nemo Arts has been at the forefront of providing high-quality, participatory arts activities which support people in recovery from poor mental health for over 23 years. We have pioneered work with children and families of prisoners, young carers, adults in psychiatric units, prisoners, and most of all people in communities in and around Glasgow.

Our service is open to any adult who is experiencing or has recently experienced poor mental health necessitating professional support. People are referred by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde psychiatric services including In-patient Units, Community Mental Health Teams and third sector mental health services.

While in practice people work with us over long periods of time, continuing until they are ready to move on, for delivery purposes our community programme is split into three 15-week terms. Each term weekly sessions using different art forms are offered.

Our mission is to support people in recovery from poor mental health, and we aim to:

  • Improve people’s mental health and wellbeing

  • Improve knowledge and understanding of mental illness in the community

  • Reduce stigma and isolation associated with poor mental health

To achieve this, we:

  • Work with people creatively to improve confidence, skills, self-worth, coping strategies and better understanding of their own recovery journey

  • Provide public opportunities where participants can share their lived experience through artistic performance and exhibitions

  • Provide safe, welcoming spaces where everyone feels included
