Out & About: GRACE Sharing Time East Dunbartonshire
/An important part of the work of the CHEX team is keeping in touch with our network and the valuable work you are undertaking to tackle health inequalities in local communities across Scotland.
Grace (Group Recovery Aftercare Community Enterprise) are a CHEX organisation based in East Dunbartonshire. They are a local peer led membership organisation providing recovery after-care for people who have experienced life traumas such as bereavement, ill health, loneliness, social isolation, mental health issues amongst others.
Committed to partnership working in their local community GRACE organise a monthly sharing time for community led organisations and public sector partners working in the East Dunbartonshire area.
Sarah from the CHEX team was delighted to sponsor the July sharing time. This not only involved providing refreshments for the 20 or so practitioners, politicians and volunteers attending the event but leading a short workshop on health inequalities and the work of CHEX.
Sarah heard about lots of fantastic work and partnerships happening locally. This included hearing from people who have completed Health Issues in the Community Course. They shared how impactful that course had been for the individual participants and the fantastic changes they had been able to influence in their local community through taking part in the course.
It was a great opportunity to share knowledge, learning and practice experience. What came through clearly is the importance of investment of time and resources in supporting communities who experience poverty and health inequalities to develop their capacity to be able to make their voices heard and influence local decision making and services.
We're always keen to visit local projects and understand more about your work. Get in touch with the team.
