World café stories

Our delegates and keynote listeners engaged in a world café-style session at the conference, led by four organisations and partnerships who shared their stories of what it takes to make community-led health on the ground. 

Media Education: Sharing Space and making room for everyone  

Media Education make films, podcasts and facilitate peer research with people who want to share their lived experiences. This story explored what it takes to create a safe and inclusive space to build relationships, trust and actively listen rather than imposed agendas and questions. It's not about the assumed knowledge but the nuances and new insights that come from listening that we need to focus on. 

Castlemilk Youth Complex: Empowering change for young people 

The Castlemilk Youth Complex is a highly respect youth organisation that gives young people a voice to be seen, heard and themselves. This story focused on the importance of investing in young people and volunteers so that they are empowered to influence change for themselves and their local community. 

Change 2 Change Scotland: No more us & them - just us 

Chance 2 Chance (C2C) is a Peer Support Group based in Drumchapel who are passionate about creating lasting positive change. In this story, delegates heard a personal account from the Chance 2 Change facilitator, Leanne McBride, alongside the group's inspirational journey, demonstrating that with the right support, people can be phenomenal!  

Dundee City Council / Health and Social Care Partnership: Communities as equal partners 

Dundee’s Community Health Team works in partnership with communities to raise awareness of the wider influences on health and supports community and service responses to health inequalities in Dundee. This story focused on the importance of working alongside communities as equal partners to understand what data and evidence is really telling us - and developing measures that mean working with and not doing to local communities.
