‘The Big Get Together’
Talkin bout a Revolution: From rhetoric to action

Monday 13th November 2023 -10.00-3.30pm, Byres Community Hub, Glasgow

Scottish Communities for Health and Wellbeing (SCHW) invites people who value the power of communities to improve health and wellbeing to come together.

Our Big Get Together will:

  • Exchange our experiences of community-led health in action

  • Hear new evidence of how it makes a difference

  • Discuss what we can do ourselves to increase our impact

  • Challenge government, the NHS and others to move beyond rhetoric to support community-led action

This free event will explore how we can move from rhetoric to action with insights from partners in our network, Glasgow Caledonian University, the Scottish and Northern Ireland SPRING programmes and the Scottish Governments Place and Wellbeing programme. We will also have workshops which will provide platforms for active discussions on innovative community led approaches and structures for securing health and wellbeing improvement across Scotland.

We hope that the outcomes of our event will engage and interest community organisations, national and local decision makers and influence action that moves way beyond rhetoric and makes a big difference to the quality of life of many people throughout Scotland.

Places are limited for this event so early booking is advised, SCHW will let you know if you have a place by 27 October 23.  Participants will be asked to select workshops following confirmation of your place.

Background

SCHW is made up of 85 very active, well embedded community led health and wellbeing improvement organisations from all over Scotland. Our alliance has been in existence since 2002 when Healthy Living Centres were established.  We have secured over £7million directly into communities through a wide range of programmes and projects.  In partnership with the Northern Ireland Healthy living Centre Alliance and the National Lottery Community Fund we have just completed a very successful £5 million social prescribing project called SPRING.

It would be great if you are able to participate with colleagues. The event will start at 10.00am (registration) for 10.30 and finish around 3.30pm. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
