Susan Paxton - Head of Programmes: Community-led Health and Networking

As manager of CHEX, Susan oversees the implementation of CHEX work programmes and has a particular remit to promote CHEX's engagement within the health and social policy arena.  As such she is involved in various policy and strategic working groups to actively promote and support community led approaches to tackle health inequalities and improve health and well-being. Susan has over 20 years’ experience in the field of community development, working as a community development practitioner and manager in a local authority for 10 years before joining SCDC in 2005 as a Senior Development Officer for the LEAP Support Unit/Healthy Living Centre Support Programme.  For the last 11 years Susan had worked on a variety of SCDC programmes, with a particular focus on community capacity building, community engagement, community led health and strategic planning & evaluation.   



Elspeth Gracey, Development Manager

Elspeth's role within CHEX is to support organisations in the CHEX Network. She encourages networking and sharing of good practice via seminars, training and learning events. She has a particular interest in the role of local organisations in supporting good mental well-being. She also participates in a range of national working groups ensuring that the community-led health perspective is reflected at a national level. Elspeth works for CHEX three days a week. (MORE)








Paul Nelis - Development Manager 

Paul is currently working as part of a team on a number of national programmes including the continued development of VOiCE, the community engagement tool, the new LEAP database, Scottish HLC Alliance and various small contracts. (MORE)








David Reilly - Development Manager

David works as a Development manager contributing to range of programmes running across the Scottish Community Development Centre and Community Health Exchange. This involves providing advice and support to community organisations to enable them to be more effective and influential, delivering national training programmes and events to improve community development practice as well as conducting research and needs analysis related to community development policy and practice. Sam Jordan - Information and Communications Manager

Responsible for the communications output of SCDC, CHEX and the Scottish Co-production Network, Sam creates and promotes materials across a range of programmes and projects. He works with Development Managers to organise events, publish newsletters and keep a range of websites and social media accounts up-to-date. Sam currently produces CHEX-Point Snippets, which is published every two weeks. (MORE)





 Sarah Jane Mc Geown- Information and Communications Assistant 

Sarah Jane provides extra support working alongside Sam in the delivery of our marketing activities and promotional content through our online channels. Sarah Jane has a First Class Honours Degree in Marketing but within her fourth year at university developed a keen interest in the third sector, particularly in community development. Sarah Jane has a range of relevant experience within similar roles in digital media and skills in using creative formats to communicate messages.
