Scottish Tobacco Control Strategy Seminars

ASH Scotland with the Scottish Tobacco Control Alliance is arranging consultation meetings in Glasgow and Dundee around the Scottish Government's new tobacco control strategy for Scotland.

The Scottish Government has been working to produce a new tobacco control strategy for Scotland over the course of this year with input from a number of stakeholders including ASH Scotland, NHS Health Scotland, SCOTSS and STCA representatives.

A draft of this strategy will be released for a limited initial period of scrutiny over the month of November, and depending on the level of feedback may go to a wider consultation exercise. Andy Bruce, Head of Tobacco, Alcohol and Diet, Public Health Division, Scottish Government will present the draft strategy at the two meetings This is an ideal opportunity to question Andy on the Scottish Government’s proposals, discuss and debate the opportunities that the new strategy presents and to put forward suggestions that might strengthen the proposals detailed in the strategy.  The two dates are:

  • 16 November, 13.00 to 16.00 in Glasgow in partnership with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde
  • 28 November, 13.00 to 16.00 in Dundee in partnership with NHS Tayside

CHEX strongly encourages community-led health organisation to consider participating in the seminars. Capacity for these meetings has been set at around 50, therefore if you are interested in attending please can you confirm your preferred date with Jennifer Black JBlack@Ashscotland.org.uk as soon as possible.

Once the strategy is finalisedthe Scottish Government will look to arrange a meeting in the first quarter of 2013 for the inequalities forum to come back and discuss the strategy further (possibly the date in February) with a more specific focus on the areas around inequalities. Further details to follow.
