Parliament recognises contribution of community-led health organisation

We are delighted to report that there has been well deserved recognition for The Wester Hailes Health Agency.

They have received congratulations from the Scottish Parliament for their 20 years of community led health work in Wester Hailes, in the form of a parliamentary motion. Gordon Macdonald MSP, who proposed the motion, attended their 20th Anniversary celebrations, as did some of the CHEX team, on the 8th August, acknowledging the fantastic work that The Health Agency do. Read our event report here

Discovering at the end of their 20th Anniversary open day that their MSP had taken the time to organise recognition of all their efforts over the years from the Scottish Parliament, meant a lot to all at Wester Hailes and local resident, social history ‘guru’ and Chairperson Eoghan Howard (Pictured right with Gordon Macdonald MSP on our social history walk of Wester Hailes).

Manager Linda Arthur told us what it meant to them and summarised by saying,

"That letter really made the day complete, to be recognised for all the hard work that everybody has been involved in over the years".

The Parliamentary Motion text included:

That the Parliament congratulates the Wester Hailes Health Agency on its 20th anniversary; recognises its contribution to empowering local people to take action that makes a positive impact on their and their community’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing; praises its three operating principles of a holistic approach towards health, community development in terms of empowering people, and partnership working with voluntary and statutory services; congratulates it on the 5th anniversary of the opening of its Healthy Living Centre, which has facilitated greater provision of its service; thanks all staff and volunteers for their efforts, which have contributed to the success of the Wester Hailes Agency, and offers continued support for it in the future.

Gordon Macdonald concluded his letter to the organisation informing them of the motion passed by the parliament by wishing The Health Agency well for the future and offering his continued support.

Congratulations and well done to everyone at The Health Agency.
