New Community-Led Regeneration Category in SURF Awards

Each year, SURF and the Scottish Government team up to recognise, reward and celebrate best practice in Scottish community regeneration. The SURF Awards are independently judged by a panel of national regeneration bodies and community representatives. This year the Awards include a category for 'Community Led Regeneration' - so why not enter a community-led initiative that you know of for an Award?

Community-led regeneration need not be physical regeneration such as improving local community facilities - in fact, many of the previous award winners were projects which aim to achieve social or economic outcomes for communities. You can read about previous winners here.

In total, a set of five new categories are built into the 2012 Awards to reflect all aspects and scales of community regeneration activity. SURF want to showcase the full range of themes and approaches across the changed regeneration scene of 2012; from creative neighbourhood initiatives to large-scale physical developments and everything in between. The new 2012 SURF Award categories are:

  • Community Led Regeneration
  • Sustainable Place
  • Infrastructure and Regeneration
  • Creative Regeneration
  • YESS to Jobs (Youth Employability and Skills Services)

Why enter the Awards?

  • Increase awareness of the project's work
  • Demonstrate its success and value to partners and funders
  • Celebrate the contributions of partners, management, staff and volunteers
  • Winning projects for 2012 will receive access to free consultancy support services
  • Winners will be showcased in a variety of SURF publications and events in 2013
  • All shortlisted projects are highlighted in a widely distributed publication
  • It's a free, short and straightforward application process
