HIIC Tutor Training

Who can become a trainer?

Although anyone can use the learning pack to run one-off sessions or short courses it is important that those wishing to run full 'Health Issues in the Community' courses are registered Tutors. Only registered Tutors are able to run credit rated courses.

Tutor Training Courses

The 2 day Tutor Training Course is a credit rated course, 8 points at level 7, and aims to equip participants to deliver 'Health Issues in the Community' training to a wide variety of people in a broad range of settings.  Applicants should have a reasonable knowledge of community development and/or delivering training in a community setting.  The Tutor Training gives participants an opportunity to find out about the pack content, how to use it, the learning methods that are used and the expectations/responsibilities of tutors.

On completion of the 2 day course tutors are required to Undertake practice delivery sessions equivalent to 8 -10 hours of delivery time, and provide details of how sessions were planned and delivered. Tutors are also required to submit a 1,500 word essay on their reflective learning of delivering the practice sessions. Submissions for accreditation should normally be made within 5 months of taking the course.

We provide Tutor training in two ways:

Open Courses

These are usually run twice a year, subject to demand, and are open to individuals. The cost is £300 per person from statutory organisations and £200 per person for those from voluntary organisations.

Please Note: If you have registered for an open course...

  • If for any reason you need to cancel attendance you should advise us at least two weeks prior to the first day of the course or you will be charged the full cost.
  • Anyone who does not notify us of their inability to attend will be charged the full cost.

The next Open HIIC Tutor Training Course will take place on Thursday 30 September & Friday 1 October 2010 at the STUC Centre, 333 Woodlands Road, Glasgow, G3 6NG from 9.30am to 4.15pm (lunch will be provided).  Please note that spaces are available on a ‘first-come-first-served basis’.  To register, you must download, complete and return the form available here or contact Aileen Skillen for more information at aileen@scdc.org.uk.
