Unit 1 – What Health Means To Me

Introduction and sharing ideas. Social and medical explanations of health.

Unit 2– Different Ways Of Thinking About Health

At different times in history or in different parts of the world, people developed ideas about health that we can still recognise today.

Unit 3 – Poverty, Inequality And Health

What do we mean by equality? Mapping it out at local level. Making sense of facts and figures.

Unit 4 – Different Experiences, Common Problems

Many factors affect people’s health. But these are experienced in different ways by different groups of people. Introduction to the idea of equity and health.

Unit 5 – Participation And Power

What are the obstacles to participation? How can we have more say in the planning and provision of services? When and why do we feel powerless?

Unit 6 – Community Development And Health

What is community development? The community health movement – influences and values.

Unit 7 – The Group Project

Small group presentations to a local audience of invited guests.

Unit 8 – Reflection And Review Of Learning

Reflection and review of the learning so far. Mid-point assignment.
